Winneburg
Overview.
Winneburg was an Imperial immediate territory of
the Holy Roman Empire.
In 1637, when the House of the Lords of Winneburg
became extinct, the Lordships of Winneburg and Beilstein returned to their
overlord, the Archbishop of Trier [5: Theil V (1826); p.28] [10: tome III;
p.372].
In 1652, the Archbishop of Trier, gave the
Lordships of Winneburg and Beilstein in fief to the Vettelhoven branch of House
of Metternich [5: Theil V (1826); p.437; Doc.# 230; p.28] [12: p.55,
428].
In 1794, the French army occupied the Lordships
of Winneburg and Beilstein which were later annexed to France [12: p.56].
Notes.
1. In 1635, the Emperor of the Romans granted the
title of Baron to members of the Vettelhoven branch of House of Metternich [11:
Band 3; p.232].
2. In February 1803, the Final Recess of the
Imperial Deputation compensated the Count of Metternich for the loss of
Winneburg and Beilstein with the secularized Imperial immediate Abbey of
Ochsenhausen [10: p.372] [12: p.428, 488].
3. In June 1803, the Emperor of the Romans
granted the title of Prince to the Count of Metternich and elevated Ochsenhausen
to the status of Principality [11: Band 3; p.232] [12: p.XXV, 488].
4. In July 1806, the Prince of Metternich lost
the status of ruler when the Principality of Ochsenhausen was mediatized by the
Act of the Confederation of the Rhine [10: p.372] [12: p.428,
488].
