East Frisia
(Ostfriesland)
Overview.
In 1464, the Emperor of the Romans granted the
title of Count to Ulrich, Chief of Norden from the Cirksena family, and elevated
his possessions in East Frisia to the staus of County [12: Band 3;
p.304].
In 1744, with the death of Prince Charles-Edzard
of East Frisia, the House of Cirksena became extinct in the male line, and East
Frisia passed to the King of Prussia.
In 1807, East Frisia was annexed to the Kingdom
of Holland.
